Martin Schnutz founded the company in 1846. His sons and grandsons turned his blacksmith's shop into the mechanical engineering factory Fr. W. Schnutz; at the turn of the century the company focused mainly on the construction of steam and gas engines.

With the beginning of the steel-processing industry in the Siegerland which is still important today, a reorientation to the construction and the manufacture of sheetprocessing machines took place. Already around 1900 roll levelers were supplied to customers inside and outside the Siegerland.

Levelers for sheets and strips as well as the corresponding equipment are up to now a speciality of Schnutz.

Customers around the globe are aware of the high technological level and the precision with which Schnutz machines are manufactured.
